NYE 2014THE FUTURE IS NOW
My Best Friends Party and The Werks are teaming up to produce an all night party that will also serve as an afterparty for the werks newport show. Music will commence at 8pm at Circus Columbus and continue all night until 330 am. The lineup will feature bands and djs as well as the unveiling of an installation art project at circus as well as some lighting and sound upgrades.
BANDS WILL INCLUDE
- THE OHIO ALL STARS LATE NIGHT SUPER JAM(FEATURING MEMBERS OF THE WERKS) 2AM
The Werks have quickly emerged as a national jamband powerhouse. As a result of their eclectic individual influences, The Werks produce a dance party that can be appreciated by a majority of musical tastes. Fusing the psychedelic shredding guitar and screaming organ of jam and classic rock with funk slap bass, synthesizers, and modern dance beats, The Werks are redefining the term "Jam Band" with the ability to cross genres from Psychedelic Rock to Funk to Electronica. Their unique style of performing is affected and manipulated by the energy of the audience, guaranteeing that each show will be different and memorable.
- Sassafraz
SassafraZ was born in January 2012 in the rolling green hills of Athens, OH. The first year was a busy one for the band, playing shows with Papadosio, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, The Werks, Snarky Puppy, and Big Sam’s Funky Nation, as well as recording their debut album Time Will Tell at the world renowned Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta with super producer Miguel Scott (Lil Wayne, Whitney Houston).
SassafraZ can be described specifically as future-funk-disco-jam-hip-hop-rock-pop-soul-reggae-jazz-electro-fusion. That’s kind of a mouthful, so we just call it groove music. It’s all masterminded by crazy ginger genius Eric Turner (guitar, keys, vocals), who literally has these songs come to him in dreams. Emerson B. (vocals, guitar, dancing) is the ginger-ying to Eric’s ginger-yang. He holds the group together with his smooth baritone voice, superior fashion sense, and swag for days. Multi-instrumentalists Jack Gould (sax, keys) and Zach Pontzer (trumpet, lead guitar, vocals) thankfully do not have red hair. That would be too creepy. Nate Parker (drums), Jake Goldberg (bass), Thane Evans (keys) typically join the quartet, but sometimes they go on Phish tour instead.

- Broccoli Samurai
Broccoli Samurai broke ground as the brainchild of Cleveland natives Ryan “Bruce” Hodson and Chris Walker. In 2009, bassist Steve Fade joined them, and in 2013, John McCarron joined on guitar. The psychedelic improvisation of progressive electronica with a heavy drum and bass groove has thrilled audiences across the Midwest. Their positive vibe, energetic stage presence, and undeniable talent have earned them praise among their peers.
“Broccoli Samurai inject much-needed playfulness and humanity into the chill out genre. As they put it, “Arrive in good humor, proceed accordingly.”” - Scene Magazine
- The Puzzled Pieces
The Puzzled Pieces are a group of four Ohio musicians who have combined forces to create a unique blend of Midwest funk fusion. Taking inspiration from a wide variety of artists and styles, the group aims to craft grooves deep enough to get lost in. Through both original compositions and creative cover interpretations, The Puzzled Pieces display a high level of musicianship while always striving for a less-is-more approach to their sound. Featuring Mitch Deitrick on bass, Dave Freeman on drums, Ryan Paradise on keys, and Wib Schneider on guitar, the group has just revealed itself to the Central Ohio music scene and looks forward to spreading its sound throughout the Midwest and beyond.
- Manitoa
Manitoa is the brain child of Collin Firestarter Letsgo and Edward FlipNasty McGnarls. Their aim is to present the audience with an accessible, danceable, and transcendental experience that titillates all of the senses.
- Monty Carlos Monty Carlos is pure groove sauce in a can. Featuring some of the funkiest players around from around Ohio (Ian Carroll, Tyler Austin, Ian Evans, and Don Mosquera), Monty Carlos ignores the conventional rules of music and takes the concept of the fusion/jam band to a whole new plane of musical freedom; taking things way beyond improvisation...
